Transportation

Hunan has two international airports -- Changsha Huanghua International Airport and Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport, and three domestic airports -- Changde Taohuayuan Airport, Yongzhou Lingling Airport, and Huaihua Zhijiang Airport, with Nanyue Airport in Hengyang under construction. Changsha Huanghua International Airport, which has 80 scheduled routes to 56 domestic cities (including Taiwan and Hong Kong) and countries like Japan, Thailand, Korea, Singapore and Vietnam, has been an important hub for Hunan to connect with the outside world, and a link for civil aviation across the country.

With a developed railway network, Hunan is traversed by five railway lines: Beijing - Guangdong, Hangzhou - Zhuzhou Railway, Hunan - Guangxi Railway, Hunan - Guizhou Railway, and Zhicheng - Liuzhou Railway. Nearly all tourist destinations or cities in Hunan are accessible by railway. To visit Zhangjiajie, you can fly to Changsha, and continue to Zhangjiajie or Jishou by train.

Given the flourishing coach services in Hunan, you can first get to Changsha, and get to other cities by various buss. The total length of highway open to traffic in the province reaches more than 60,000km, and all tourist cities and scenic spots are accessible by coaches.

There are four navigable rivers in the province: Xiang River, Zijiang River, Yuan River and Lishui River. Cities, including Changsha, Hengyang, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Shaoyang, Huaihua, Changde and Yueyang are not only hubs for railway and highway transportation, but also important stops for waterway transportation. The Port of Chenglingji in Yueyang is the only port in Hunan that can access the river to the sea.
