The Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area, located in Yuelu District, Changsha City, in Hunan Province, is 300.8 meters above sea level. It is the last peak of the 72 peaks of the Hengshan Mountains. As one of the four scenic areas featured for its maples in China, it is an urban mountain scenic area.
Currently, there are four core scenic areas: The Yuelu Mountain scenic area, Orange Island scenic area, Yuelu Academy, and Xinmin Institute. Tourists can visit the Aiwan Pavilion, Yuelu Academy, Lushan Temple, Yunlu Palace, Baihe Spring, Yuwang Tablet, two poem inscriptions (by Zhang Nanxuan from the Song Dynasty and Qian Nanyuan from the Qing Dynasty respectively), and Sarira towers from the Sui Dynasty, and Yinxin Shiwu inscriptions, etc. Yuelu Academy is one of the Four Top Academies in ancient China, and is the best preserved ancient academy.
